Science Highlights
- Demonstration of the in-situ turbulence algorithm on United aircraft
- Collection of wind and thermodynamic data near Colorado Springs in order to improve techniques to
detect and forecast hazardous winds and turbulence in the vicinity of mountains
- Completion of the Hong Kong Operational Windshear Warning System Project
- Demonstration of the Weather Support to Deicing Decision Makers system at Chicago O'Hare
and New York LaGuardia airports.
- Precipitation estimation studies using multi-parameter radar and rain gauge data
- Development of a technique to infer cloud droplet sizes from satellite data
- Operational tests of the Auto-nowcaster at White Sands Missile Range, National Weather Service Office at Sterling, Virginia, and the Aviation Weather Center at
Kansas City.
- Development of a climatology for aircraft icing from supercooled large droplets
- Conduct of a warm cloud seeding field program in Coahuila, Mexico in order to evaluate new hygroscopic seeding techniques developed in South Africa
- Development of an Operational Weather Analysis and Forecasting System for White
Sands Missile Range and for the West Desert Test Center in Dugway,
Utah
