Scientific efforts to improve the ability to monitor and predict the status of natural resources could contribute to more socially and environmentally responsible management. It is also clear that such information may have little value in the absence of improvements in the design of governance arrangements. CSAP scientists work on issues of the intersections of scientific observations and projections and institutional capacity for sustainable adaptation measures. Stakeholder involvement is key to the participatory approaches used by CSAP scientists to examine institutional aspects of climate change vulnerability and adaptation. Examples of focus areas include marine fisheries management, public health, subsistence and wildlife management in Alaska, and institutional factors shaping cities' responses to climate change, among others.
