AUTO-NOWCASTER
(e.g. automated thunderstorm forecasting algorithm)

The auto-nowcast algorithm ingests products from the:

The data is stored in a two-dimensional Spatial Occupancy Array (SOA), currently 85 km x 95 km with a 1 km grid spacing. Forecasts are generated by:

  1. Applying automated forecast rules sequentially to the data stored in the SOA, on a grid point by grid point basis.

  2. Activating all grid points in which any of the forecast rules are true.

  3. Outlining contiguous areas that are activated.

  4. Exporting the outline as the automatically generated forecast product.
