I study the meteorology which is related to in-flight aircraft icing, including supercooled large drops (SLD).
I also do related work on the occrrence of freezing precipitation (freezing drizzle, freezing rain and ice pellets). This includes climatologies of surface, upper air and synoptic conditions assocaiated with it.
As a result of the icing studies done at NCAR, we have developed the Current Icing Potential (CIP). and Forecast Icing Potential (FIP).
