Job Duties (or Current Projects)

Research Areas

Mesoscale NWP, predictability, and ensemble data assimilation with particular emphasis on planetary boundary layer (PBL) analysis and forecasting.

Current research topics:

Ensemble data assimilation of surface observations using a column model with physics from the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model. [link to more information] http://www.rap.ucar.edu/staff/hacker/pblda.html

Sensitivity in PBL winds to lower boundary forcing, caused by both cloud shading and soil moisture. Uncertainty in the winds related to uncertainty in that forcing. [link to more information] http://www.rap.ucar.edu/staff/hacker/pblwinds.html

Real-time mesoscale ensemble prediction. [link to more information] http://www.rap.ucar.edu/staff/hacker/ensemble.html
