The Data Application Systems (DAS)
The Data Application System (DAS) is a data-collection and data-repository platform. It provides data visualization and analysis tools for the 4DWX System. The DAS clusters are multi-node systems. Earlier models of DAS clusters contain five nodes, with each node serving its own unique function.
5-node DAS Clusters
5-node DAS clusters consist of the following nodes:
- Ingest Node: mainly responsible for ingesting data and web serving.
- Server Node: used for data processing and storage
- Radar Node: processes radar data and generates and displays images
- Display Node: User interface to launch and run 4DWX display tools.
- Spare Node: a backup node for use in the event that another node goes down.

The RAID is used for data storage. It holds the weather database, all non-database data files, a temporary data archive, specific weather case data, and all of the data displayed on the 4DWX web pages. The DAS RAID has 14 drives, 1 hot spare and 13 in a RAID5, and totals out to 1.7 TB of usable space.
