CAPTION: This 2 hour and 15 minute animation from June 24th (1996) begins at 2115 GMT (3:15 PM MDT), with a 15 minute interval between images. The overall width of the display window is 420 km. This sequence illustrates the rapid transition from small cumulus to thunderstorms on a Colorado afternoon. Initial development is generally restricted to the mountains, with the plains generally staying clear. The low level cloudiness over Nebraska generally disapates during this time period, perhaps in response to the concentration of convective activity in the approaching thunderstorms.
