Maps & Aerial Photographs
of the BNL/NCAR Ceiling & Visibility site

The approximate location of the site is indicated on the maps below. Aerial photographs provide a view of the surface characteristics in the area.

The main instrumented site is located in eastern Long Island, about 2km west of the NWS Upton radiosonde site. The 90-m tower is located within a clearing in an area characterized by the presence of trees to the North, West and South. To the East, buildings mostly characterize the surroundings.  To the South and South West of the tower (prevailing wind direction), the tree line is about 20 to 30 m away.
